It is an honor to be a Coordinator for FPU at the First Christian Church of Seminole. The business that I started in 1984 was decimated by the housing collapse that started the Great Recession of 2007-2009. Ours sales had fallen by 67%. My debt had risen to $140,000 of which $50,000 was personal credit card debt. It was not a fun time. Our church sponsored a Dave Ramsey FPU course. I had no idea who Dave Ramsey was but the lessons made sense. Using the debt snowball method, it took about two years to pay off the credit cards. I continued to incorporate the lessons into the business and because of FPU and the grace of God, my wife and I were able to retire in 2020 both debt and financially stress free. I use my experiences to assist in presenting this class.
